Franklin Society (Brown University), records, 1823-1833.

Consists of a minutes book and correspondence. Subjects of debates are recorded in the minutes book and included politics, the roles of women in society, justice, philosophy, the treatment of American Indians, free masonry, religion, and other subjects. The correspondence is from individuals who accepted honorary membership in the society, including John Quincy Adams, John Caldwell Calhoun, Henry Clay, Thomas Jefferson, William Wirt, and Levi Woodbury.

In 1917 the university established the Brown War Records Bureau, whose intention was to "collect and preserve a record of all Brown men who are serving in the present war". Brown faculty, students and alumni who were in the military were asked to fill out a small card called "Are you in the war?" and to send original letters, clippings or photographs which "have any bearing on the service of Brown men in the war."
